At La Bio Idea, we’re all about Heartfelt Contemporary Italian Cooking. But great flavours and good vibes alone aren’t enough for us. We’re also on a mission to make the world a better place. We’re committed to ensuring that not only you—our fellow Italian food lovers—can enjoy the delicious pastas, passatas, and beans we produce, but also that everyone throughout the entire La Bio Idea supply chain benefits from fair working conditions and a positive environment.
We’re proud that this philosophy has earned us B Corp certification. And since March is B Corp Month, we’d love to tell you more about it.

The B in B Corp stands for ‘Benefit for All’—meaning everyone, from the planet to producers, should profit from responsible business practices. ‘Corp’ is short for corporations.

What does it mean to be a B Corp?

To become a B Corp, companies must meet rigorous standards across various areas. You’re assessed on multiple fronts, and certification shows that you meet high benchmarks. Your performance is monitored, you are held accountable, and transparency is key throughout the entire process.
And this covers the entire chain—from sourcing raw materials to the finished product, from the people working in the fields to the team at headquarters. Everyone has to benefit to earn certification by B Lab. This isn’t a one-time achievement either; it’s re-evaluated every three years.

Each year, B Corp Month focuses on a new theme. This year is all about celebrating all certified B Corps—a nod to the leaders taking responsibility to ensure their businesses continue to meet the highest standards.

How do you become a B Corp—and how did we score?

There are three steps to B Corp certification:

  1. Assessment by B Lab:
You must achieve a B Impact Assessment (BIA) score of 80 or higher to qualify for certification.

  2. Legal commitment:
You must make a legal commitment in your corporate governance structure to consider not just shareholders but all stakeholders.

  3. Transparency:
You must publicly share your assessed performance via a B Corp profile on the B Lab website. Your score is re-verified every three years.

The families behind La Bio Idea

La Bio Idea’s roots run deep in Sicily, where the sun nearly always shines and crops like wheat, tomatoes, and aubergines grow naturally and develop their full flavour.
Tradition and craftsmanship are at the heart of the family businesses that supply us with these delicious ingredients. Through audits, we ensure that organic standards are upheld and natural methods are used—such as crop rotation with chickpeas and durum wheat to keep the soil fertile, so that generation after generation can enjoy the best Sicily has to offer.
